ESSENTIAL DTG ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS

To ensure the fastest turnaround time and the highest quality result for your custom Direct-to-Garment (DTG) printing order, your artwork must be provided as a print-ready file. Our service requires that you submit artwork that is correctly sized and formatted.

Crucial Note: We do not resize or modify submitted artwork to match mockups as part of our standard service. Incorrectly formatted artwork will result in production delays.

File Specifications for High-Quality Direct-to-Garment Prints

1. Dtg Artwork Requirements – Preferred File Formats (For Best Results)

We prioritize PNG and PSD formats as they offer the best control over color and transparency, which is vital for high-quality DTG printing.

This is the most common format for DTG printing as it supports transparency.

Preferred Format 1: (.png)

  • Resolution: Save at 300 DPI (dots per inch).
  • Color Mode: Must be saved in RGB mode (8-bit color recommended). Don’t saved in CMYK, there can be some color shifting when we convert them to CMYK before printing.
  • Sizing: The image must be sized exactly to the desired print dimensions (e.g., 10″ x 12″).
  • Background: Must have a transparent background.
  • Avoid Interlacing: Ensure the file is saved without interlacing.

Preferred Format 2: Adobe Photoshop (.psd)

This format is ideal for preserving your design elements while maintaining high quality.

  • Resolution: Save at 300 DPI (dots per inch).
  • Color Mode: Saved in RGB mode (8-bit color recommended).
  • Sizing: The image must be sized exactly to the desired print dimensions.
  • Layers: Supply the file as a single, merged layer (do not flatten). Note: If layers are not merged, only the visibility of the topmost layer may be processed.
  • Background: Must have a transparent background

Preferred Format 3: Adobe Illustrator (.ai) Files

While not always necessary for DTG, use this format when your design contains complex vector shapes or custom fonts.

  • Sizing: The image must be sized exactly to the desired print dimensions.
  • Fonts: All text must be converted to outlines to prevent font substitution errors.
  • Raster Effects: Ensure the Document Raster Effects Setting is set to 300 DPI.

2. Dtg Artwork Requirements – Secondary File Formats (Use with Caution)

These formats may not work in all cases and should be avoided, if possible, as they can compromise quality and transparency.

  • .pdf, .jpg, .jpeg, .tiff
  • Resolution: Must be saved at 300 DPI (recommended).
  • Sizing: The image must be sized exactly to the desired print dimensions.

Note: JPEG files do not support transparency and may require additional work or risk of poor printing quality if a background needs to be removed.

3. Dtg Artwork Requirements – Critical Artwork Tips for High-Resolution Printing

Understanding file resolution is critical for avoiding a blurry or pixelated final print on your custom T-shirt.

  • Web Images are Unsuitable: Images found online are typically saved at 72 DPI resolution. These low-resolution images are far too small for high-quality apparel printing and will look distorted or pixelated if enlarged.
  • High-Quality Source: If you are sourcing images from the web, we recommend search specifically for “wallpaper” or “high-resolution” versions, as these are typically larger in size and saved at higher DPIs.
  • CMYK Color Shift: Files submitted in RGB color mode will be converted to CMYK before printing. This conversion may cause slight color shifts, especially in very bright blues or greens, but please don’t save your files in CMYK color mode.
